Bayer 04 Leverkusen star Alejandro Grimaldo is being linked with a return to his ex-club.
According to Sky Germany, FC Barcelona are looking into the possibility of bringing their former youth player back.
Grimaldo is under contract with Bayer 04 until 2027, but would reportedly be allowed to leave for a fee in the region of €30-40 million.
The left-back spent eight years at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy between 2008 and 2016, but never made a senior appearance for the club.
His career truly took off after joining Benfica, where he established himself as a top-level full-back before moving to Leverkusen in 2023.
Just last month, Grimaldo openly expressed his desire to return to Spain in a not too distant future.
“I want to return to Spain in the short and medium term and I want to try the experience of being in Spain because, ultimately, it is my country. I want to play there and enjoy the experience, and that’s one of my goals,” he told El Periódico de España.
“I grew up at La Masia, it’s the club where I grew up as a player and as a person, and it’s the club I dreamed of playing for since I was a kid. I remember some interviews when I was a kid in which I said that my dream was to make it into the Barça first team and that has always been my dream.”
