The opening half passed by this afternoon without a goal for either team. Köln started slightly stronger than their Breisgau hosts. Jan Thielmann’s tame effort in the 10th minute was an early warning sign.
Streich’s side grew into the half however, and Vincenzo Grifo’s strike on the half hour made Schwäbe work to defend his goal. There was a brief scare for the hosts when Makengo fouled Thielmann in the box but the winger was already adjudged to have been offside prior to the challenge.
The hour mark in the second half made for a pivotal decision when Jeff Chabot, who had been booked in the first-half, recieved his marching orders. Down to 10 men, Freiburg started to take over as Röhl led the way.
The breakthrough finally came in the 72nd minute when Gregoritsch struck for 1-0. Röhl’s initial headed effort was repelled by Schwäbe but the Austrian pounced to guide home despite Hübers best attempts. In the 95th minute of time substitute Sallai joined in on the goal scoring. A fine header that ensures Streich’s troops rise to sixth in the table.
