Over 1,300 club members gathered at Borussia Park on Monday to hear updates from key figures, most notably, sporting director Roland Virkus.

Virkus began by highlighting the club’s progress on the pitch after a challenging few years for the Foals. Gladbach currently sit twelve points ahead of where they were at this stage last year, with there being room for optimism despite the recent 4-3 defeat against Holstein Kiel.

“It’s now up to the team to reconnect with the strong performances they’ve shown throughout much of the season,” said Virkus. “I made that very clear to them on Sunday morning.

In regard to outside of on-the-pitch matters, Virkus outlined a turning point in squad planning, with Gladbach not expected to lose any key players on a free transfer this summer.

Virkus did acknowledge financial limitations, however. He admitted that any potential players departing the club may not be replaced one-to-one, as he emphasised the need for creativity within their transfer strategy: “We still lack the financial resources to do that, so we’ll need to find smart solutions again.”

“Our squad has regained a structure and identity,” noted Virkus on a more positive note, with Gladbach looking much better positioned both in terms of performance and long-term planning than they have in recent years.

Looking to the future, Virkus expressed enthusiasm for two summer signings already confirmed, in Kevin Dijks and Jens Castrop: “These are players who reflect our path forward, an experienced professional and a promising U21 international. Both are fully committed to Borussia and our project.”
