Borussia Mönchengladbach have now confirmed reports surfacing late last week concerning shoulder surgery for their first choice keeper and newly anointed captain. Jonas Omlin is likely to miss the rest of the calendar year after undergoing the procedure. Twenty-five-year-old back-up net-minder Nicolas Moritz started between the sticks for Gladbach in last Saturday night’s 1-2 loss to FC Bayern München, ultimately receiving praise from both head-coach Gerardo Seoane and most all major German press sources.
Moritz is one of two younger keepers on the BMG roster Seoane may wish to turn to regularly. Veteran Tobias Sippel (35) does not appear to be an option for the time being. Twenty-one-year-old Jan Olschowsky – once the presumed keeper of the future – already has four Bundesliga starts under his belt from last season. The foals also promoted 21-year-old Maximilian Brüll to the professional squad over the summer. It still appears as if Seoane will be looking to decide between Moritz and Olschowsky for now.
