Reports suggesting that Breel Embolo’s contract has been extended until 2024 are not true, according to Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus.

Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has poured cold water on a Bild report stating that the club have activated a clause in Breel Embolo’s contract to extend it by a further year until 2024.

“The reports on Breel do not correspond to the facts. His contract currently runs until 2023,” Virkus told GladbachLive.

Therefore, Embolo could still leave the club this summer, as Gladbach might want to cash in on the striker to avoid losing him for free in 2023.

In total, 12 Gladbach players are out of contract next summer, including Marcus Thuram, who has decided that he wants to leave the club, according to a report in today’s Sport Bild, which also claims that Alassane Plea is leaning towards a transfer with one year left remaining on his deal.
