There will be a firesale at Olympique Lyonnais in January following the DNCG’s decision to provisionally relegate the club to Ligue 2. OL won’t be able to buy but they will certainly have to sell if they are to avoid such a fate.
Despite their predicament, Lyon are, for now, unwilling to part ways with their most valuable assets. Rayan Cherki and Malick Fofana, who combined could bring in above €60m, are not for sale, although depending on how desperate the situation gets, OL’s stance on their futures may have to be adapted.
There are more obvious candidates to leave Les Gones, this winter. Anthony Lopes, the former No.1 demoted to fourth choice this season, will be once again forced towards the exit door. Whilst they may not garner a fee, given that his contract is soon to expire, his is a wage that they will want to offload.
Beyond that, L’Équipe understands that Lyon are looking to offload Gift Orban, Wilfried Zaha, Said Benrahma, Ernest Nuamah, Maxence Caqueret, and maybe even Sael Kumbedi. All of the aforementioned have decent value in the current market and could therefore be sold.
