Jakub Jankto, the Getafe player who is on loan at Sparta Prague, has come out as gay.
In an emotional video, the Czech midfielder, 27, told his followers: “I am homosexual and I no longer want to hide myself.”
Jankto played for Getafe last season, making 14 appearances in the Primera División. Now, playing for Sparta Prague, he has decided to publicly acknowledge his homosexuality.
“Like everybody else, I have my strengths, I have my weaknesses, I have a family, I have my friends, I have a job which I have been doing the best I can for years, with seriousness, professionalism and passion. Just like everybody else, I also want to live my life in freedom. Without fear. Without prejudice. Without violence. But with love. I am homosexual and I no longer want to hide myself,” said Jankto in a video posted on his social channels.
Getafe responded to the video, saying: “Our utmost respect and unconditional support for our footballer Jakub Jankto”.
