Maximilian Beier is perhaps a surprise nomination for Germany’s Euro 2024 squad, but the 21-year-old has been in magnificent form for Hoffenheim this season, scoring 15 and creating four in 32 Bundesliga games.
Yet to make his national team debut, Beier was called up by Nagelsmann in their previous squad for their wins against France and the Netherlands, but the German forward didn’t make an appearance. But still, an experience for the young forward who has enjoyed a breakout season this campaign.
“I am very proud and very happy that I was nominated,” said Beier in a media scrum. “It is definitely the greatest thing that has happened to me in my career so far.”
Hosts Germany will play friendlies against Ukraine (Nürnberg) and Greece (Mönchengladbach) in preparation for next month’s tournament which starts on June 7, with Nagelsmann’s side playing Scotland in Munich before games against Hungary and Switzerland.
