It has been 13 years since Gerard Piqu and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were the protagonists of a photograph that caused much controversy and controversy, as they appeared very close together, for many in a somewhat awkward position, as if they were about to kiss. And it was the former Spanish player himself who clarified what happened that day in the club’s parking lot, when they both played for Barcelona.
During a chat with Ibai Llanos during After Kings, a program on Twitch where they talk about what happened in the Kings League, the tournament in which they have teams, Piqu was questioned about that famous photograph and did not hesitate to tell his truth, making it clear that the photo was taken out of context.
“In that photo we are in the parking lot of the club. There is my car and there is the press. That I could eat my mouth with Zlatan, but not in the parking lot of the club. The photo is totally taken out of context. Best of all, it was Zlatan’s reaction,” laughed Shakira’s ex-partner.
And after the photo was released, a journalist asked the Swedish striker if he was gay, and Ibra responded lethally and forcefully, as he was in the area: “No, no, you and your sister come home now and I will prove that I’m not gay”.
Piqu had already confessed what happened that day
In 2015 the then defender had clarified what happened that occasion. He told FourFourTwo magazine that it was a misunderstanding and that he had only approached Zlatan to congratulate him after the release of his autobiography.
“I’m a very tactile person, very affectionate. The photographer took the photo at the moment when we were shaking hands. I was inside the training ground, so I don’t think it was someone from the entertainment world,” Pique said in the interview.
