RMC Sport are reporting that Gennaro Gattuso has agreed to succeed Laurent Blanc as manager at Olympique Lyonnais.
Blanc parted ways with Lyon on Monday, ending weeks of speculation about his future at the club. He leaves Lyon bottom of Ligue 1 with just one point from the opening four games. Gattuso quickly emerged as a frontrunner to take the position in the dugout at the Groupama Stadium.
According to L’Équipe, the Italian is essentially a default choice for John Textor, who is eager to quickly appoint Blanc’s successor ahead of Sunday’s game against Le Havre. The timing of Blanc’s departure has left Textor with little time, and unless an alternative option presents itself, Gattuso looks likely to take the job.
RMC Sport now report that Gattuso is ready to join Lyon and the contour of the deal to bring him to the club have already been agreed upon. Textor green-lighting the deal is the only thing standing in the way of the completion of the deal.
