According to L’Équipe, Besiktas midfielder Gedson Fernandes (25) was a priority target for Olympique Lyonnais at the end of the summer transfer window. The Portuguese international’s representatives were in direct discussions with Les Gones but a potential move did not materialise.
After failing to land Fernandes, Lyon ended up signing Jordan Veretout (31) following the closure of the transfer window. The joker window in France allowed the move to be completed. Following Thursday night’s Europa League defeat to Besiktas, OL were left with regret at the failure to sign the midfielder.
The Turkish club defeated Les Gones 1-0 at the Groupama Stadium, with the former Tottenham loanee on the scoresheet. Fernandes escaped in behind the Lyon defence with relative ease and gave his side three points with a low-driven effort that flew beyond Lucas Perri.
