Slovakian international and PSG-bound Inter centre-back Milan Škriniar (28) underwent back surgery on Tuesday in France, the Milan outfit has announced. The 28-year-old defender has been hampered by back problems that have prevented him from playing a single game with the Nerazzurri for more than a month now. Inter have released a medical statement on Škriniar, explaining that the player had undergone endoscopic surgery on his lumbar spine yesterday at the Clinique du Sport in Mérignac – a suburb of Bordeaux, in south-western France.
Inter add that Škriniar will follow a rehabilitation process in the coming weeks. The Slovakian international is therefore not expected to take part in the Champions League finals semi-finals against arch-rivals Milan, with the two legs taking place on May 10 and May 16. Škriniar has taken to Instagram to reassure Inter and PSG fans on his fitness. “In agreement with Inter, I underwent surgery in order to be able to return to the pitch as soon as possible. It will be followed by a short rehabilitation for a return to contention. Best regards to all.”
The Slovakian international centre-back confirmed back in January that he would be joining Les Parisiens in the summer, upon the expiry of his contract at Inter. After this new setback, Škriniar may have already played his final game with Inter.
