L’Equipe and France Football have revealed the ten nominees for the 2023 Yashin Trophy that rewards the best goalkeeper in the world
Despite his season-ending ACL injury, 2022 Yashin Trophy winner Thibaut Courtois will be gunning for a second accolade in a row. The Belgium international will face fierce competition from Morocco international goalkeeper and 2023 Europa League winner with Sevilla Yassine Bounou, who has agreed to a lucrative move to PIF-funded Saudi Arabia side Al-Hilal this summer.
Manchester City treble-winning goalkeeper Ederson is evidently part of the list. Fellow Brazilian international goalie and 2022 Yashin Trophy runner-up Allison Becker (Liverpool) did not make the cut.
Croatia’s breakout goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, who was instrumental in Croatia’s run to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals, has been selected. Reliable AC Milan goalie and newly-named Les Bleus n°1 Mike Maignan is among the ten best keepers in the world. The PSG youth product is not the only Frenchman on the list with Lens’ Brice Samba a surprise inclusion.
Argentine 2022 World Cup winner and Aston Villa’s last line of defense Emiliano Martinez is among the nominees for the 2023 Yashin Trophy. 2022 Champions League runner-up with Inter André Onana, now at Manchester United, is part of the list too. Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale and Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen complete the list of nominees.
