Marcos Alonso to snub Man Utd interest

Fulham target Youssouf Fofana to replace Joao Palhinha

Premier League side Fulham are eyeing a move for AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana.

According to the Daily Mail, the Cottagers are sprinting against time to secure the services of the Frenchman before the window slams shut this Friday.

Fofana has undergone quite a journey to arrive at the upper echelons of the beautiful game.

The Monaco midfielder’s roots trace back to Strasbourg’s youth academy, where he honed his craft before debuting for the senior squad in 2018.

In 2020, Monaco acquired his services for £13 million. Since then, Fofana has flourished, evolving into a midfield stalwart for Les Monegasques, amassing an impressive 141 appearances across various competitions.

He has bagged three vital goals for the club in that period and become a mainstay in the first team.

Fofana’s meteoric rise has not gone unnoticed as France head coach Didier Deschamps called him to the national team in September last year.

The 24-year-old played in the 2022 FIFA World Cup as Les Bleus reached the final before the heartbreaking defeat to Argentina in Qatar.

Fulham’s pursuit of Fofana holds the keys to Bayern Munich’s move for Fulham man Joao Palhinha.

The Cottagers are discussing the transfer with the Bundesliga champions but will wait till they bring in a replacement.

Fulham have identified Fofana as their replacement for Palhinha. He is their man to fortify the midfield ranks.

Also, Bayern’s advances for Palhinha could free up the wheels for Ryan Gravenberch’s transfer to Liverpool.

The Reds have Gravenberch as one of their targets this window and are trying to agree a deal with Bayern, but Die Rekordmeister will not let the Dutch international go unless they bring in Palhinha.

With the ticking clock of the transfer window in full motion, time remains the major constraint, but if Fulham can get Fofana in, it will unlock the door for the Gravenberch and Palhinha deals.
