French FA interim president Philippe Diallo open to staying on

Speaking to AFP, reported by L’Équipe, the French FA’s interim president Philippe Diallo has indicated that he would be open to staying in his current position past this summer.

Diallo assumed the role back in January when Noël Le Graët initially stepped back from his duties as president. The latter then resigned altogether a month ago in the wake of the findings of a government-mandated audit, notably accusing him of sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour, allegations which he denies.

Le Graët’s final term was set to last until 2024. A federal assembly in June could see an opposing candidate mount a challenge against Diallo to see out the rest of the term, although this appears increasingly unlikely given the short timeframe. The 59-year-old has explained that “it would be somewhat hypocritical of me to say I’m not interested, but I don’t think about it every day as I’m shaving”.

The FFF’s former vice-president has also said that he believes the current executive board should remain in place, despite having been elected with Le Graët in charge – “I don’t think his departure calls into question the overall legitimacy of the federation”.
