The French FA’s interim president Philippe Diallo has been elected to UEFA’s Executive Commitee on a four-year term at the governing body’s congress in Lisbon, the organisation has announced this afternoon.
Of the seven elected, all are men – Norway’s Lise Klaveness, the only woman running, has missed out, finishing second to last in the voting.
The congress, during which president Aleksander Čeferin was re-elected, saw Diallo receive 37 votes out of a possible 55. The FFF’s former vice-president was named president earlier this year in the wake of the resignation of Noël Le Graët. The former Guingamp president stepped down following the damning conclusions of a government-mandated audit, which notably accuses him of multiple instances of sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour, which he denies.
Diallo is likely to remain in charge of French football until the end of Le Graët’s term, in 2024. Although a rival could mount a challenge ahead of this summer’s federal assembly, the short timeframe between now and then would make this difficult – and his election to UEFA’s Executive Committee now puts him in a position of strength back home.
