According to Kicker, Freiburg have their eyes on Merlin Röhl from the 3. Liga to improve their depth in midfield.

SC Freiburg feel a bit thin in the midfield and would like to make a final transfer before the window closes. Ingolstadt’s Merlin Röhl is a fit with his play as a no. 8 or in defensive midfield. The 3. Liga club are looking to cash in on the 20-year-old, who’s contract runs until 2025.
Janik Haberer has left to Union Berlin, leaving Maximilian Eggestein and 32-year-old Nicolas Höfler as the starters in midfield. Yannik Keitel struggled through injuries last year, while Robert Wagner consistently plays with Freiburg’s reserves. Depth in the middle is clearly a priority for Jochen Saier and Christian Streich.
Ingolstadt won’t make things easy for Freiburg, as Röhl is already on the board with a goal and assist this season.
