After FC St. Pauli and Werder Bremen, SC Freiburg have become the third Bundesliga club to stop communicating via X.

The Bundesliga side announced the decision on Tuesday, stating that “values such as diversity and tolerance, which the club stands for in its statutes, are being trampled underfoot” on the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“The rapid radicalisation of the platform is reflected in a flood of hatred, hate speech and conspiracy theories. There is little regulation or sanction. On the contrary: Elon Musk, who took over Twitter two years ago, is personally responsible for publishing and disseminating much of this content,” Freiburg’s statement continued.

“A point has been reached where the club can no longer afford to simply ‘carry on as before’. Standing up to xenophobia, racism and discrimination is part of who we are. Against the background of the current development of X, remaining on the platform can no longer be justified.”

From now on, SC Freiburg will publish content on BlueSky instead.
