Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio reports that two Bundesliga clubs are interested in a young Italian phenom who recorded an assist in last night’s UEFA Nations League draw against the German national team.
FC Zurich attacker Degnand Wilfried Gnonto has apparently been within the sights of SC Freiburg for some time, but may be tempted to follow his former head-coach André Breitenreiter over to Hoffenheim.
At the age of 18 years, six months and 30 days, Wilfried Gnoto became the third-youngest debutant for the Squadra Azzurra since 2000 last night. Within five minutes of his introduction, the teenage phenom even recorded an assist by setting up Lorenzo Pellegrini’s opening goal.
“I knew that [Thilo] Kehrer had already already cautioned,” Gnoto remarked in a post-match interview when discussing the play last night, “so I went straight into the direct duel. As a striker you have to take risks and this time it worked.”
Gnoto just completed an excellent season with Swiss Super League Champions FC Zürich. After collecting 15 scorer points, the Verbania native has pushed his market value up to €6 million. Given that he’s entering the final year of his contract with the FCZ, Gnoto is considered a prime candidate for a summer transfer.
Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio and his team have linked the young talent with Freiburg, but Zürich head-coach André Breitenreiter’s recent move to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim may leave the riser looking for a more familiar trainer ahead of a possible World Cup call-up.
Breitenreiter gave Gnoto 36 appearances last season.
