L’Équipe and RMC have this evening confirmed reports from Italy that François Modesto, a former right-back who chiefly played for Monaco and Bastia, is one of the candidates to become Roma’s next Sporting Director.
Since retiring, Modesto has notably worked as a scout for Olympiacos, before become technical director of Nottingham Forest, where he helped the club earn promotion to the Premier League last season. Since last summer, he has been working for Monza, the Silvio Berlusconi-owned promoted side, and has overseen an impressive first campaign with the team currently 8th in Serie A.
Modesto has been identified as a potential replacement for Tiago Pinto, who is set to join Tottenham Hotspur. His chances of getting the job are favoured by the fact that he worked with the club’s new CEO, Lina Souloukou, while the two were at Olympiacos. Given his results in England and Italy, Souloukou would to work with Modesto again.
