France’s Malo Gusto aims to become ‘the best in the world’

Although he has already had the honour of representing France on eight occasions, Malo Gusto is far from satisfied. And he makes no secret of his ambitions.

“I’m not with Les Bleus to sit on the bench my whole life. I want to be a starter,” said the Chelsea right-back in an interview with Téléfoot. “My goal is to be the best in the world in my position.”

Having only started three times since joining the national team, Gusto is well aware that nothing will be handed to him on a plate. Especially given the fierce competition.

“There are two full-backs, Jules (Koundé) and me, so obviously there’s competition between two different profiles,” he explained. “It will depend on what the game demands. It’s a great honour to wear this shirt and represent my country!”

Appearing in the last four international call-ups, Gusto has undoubtedly made an impact, notably delivering two assists against Azerbaijan (1-3 victory). Having made 34 appearances (25 starts) for Chelsea in all competitions since the start of the season, the former Olympique Lyonnais player looks set to earn a place in the squad that will fly to the United States to compete in the 2026 World Cup next June.
