Former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain completes move to Besiktas

Former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has joined Turkish outfit Besiktas on a free transfer, according to The Athletic. 

The 29-year-old had been without a club since leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2022-23 season. 

Several teams from Saudi Arabia were reportedly keen to sign him while Brentford were also credited with an interest. 

But Besiktas have won the transfer race for the experienced midfielder. 

Fabrizio Romano reports he has penned a three-year contract with the Black and Whites, keeping him at the club until 2026. 

Besiktas are one of the most successful teams in Turkey, having won 21 league titles so far.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came through the youth ranks of Southampton where he earned his competitive debut at the age of 16 in 2010. 

His impressive development at St Mary’s Stadium caught the attention of Arsenal who then signed him for an initial £12 million in 2011. 

The midfielder established himself as an important member for the Gunners team, posting 198 appearances across all competitions and registering 20 goals. 

The England international moved to Liverpool in a £35m deal in 2017. His time at Anfield saw him lifting the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. 

In 146 appearances across all competitions, the 29-year-old contributed 18 goals and 15 assists for the Reds. 

He would have had a greater role at Anfield if not for the fitness issues that greatly hampered his progress.
