Flick indicates that Kimmich will not be moved to right-back against Spain

Germany coach Hansi Flick has indicated that he will not move Joshua Kimmich to the right-back position against Spain.

After Germany’s 1-2 defeat against Japan, it was reported that head coach Hansi Flick would consider using Joshua Kimmich at right-back in his team’s next World Cup game against Spain on Sunday.
However, Flick seemed to rule out a position change for Kimmich at the pre-match press conference today.

When quizzed about the possibility of moving Kimmich from central midfield to the right side of defence, Flick responded:

“Why would that be in the interest of the team? We have right-backs, who can play there.

“There are several positions where we have options – we’ll wait and see,” added Flick, who chose to come to the presser himself instead of bringing a player with him.

“We didn’t want any of the players to spend almost 3 hours in the car. That’s why I said I’d do it alone. All 26 players are important, so I don’t have a player with me here. We put our full focus on the game,” he said.

Flick also provided an update on Leroy Sané, who remains a doubt.

“With Leroy, we have to wait for the final training today. He will train with us, which is pleasing. After that, we can say more.”
