Twenty-year-old American midfielder Santiago Castaneda may soon be making the jump to the German top flight. The Tampa-native has been – according to a report from Germany’s “Sport Bild” tabloid – been scouted by the likes of Heidenheim, Freiburg, Union Berlin, Werder Bremen, and Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Castaneda made a name for himself in the 3. Liga with MSV Duisburg last season, scoring two goals and notching two assists in 31 league appearances for the Westphalian “Zebras”. He’s become a mainstay for the East Westphalians this year, logging nearly maximum minutes as a starter in all 15 league fixtures.
The scorer of a goal in Paderborn’s opening round Pokal victory maintains an estimated market worth of €800,000 in the latest transfermarkt update. Paderborn currently sit atop the 2. Bundesliga table with serious hopes of returning to the top flight for the first time since their 2019/20 relegation.
