La Liga outfit Athletic Club have on Wednesday been hit with a considerable sanction on the part of UEFA.
This comes owing to the behaviour of the club’s travelling supporters in their recent Europa League meeting with Serie A giants AS Roma.
En route to an eventual 1-1 stalemate in the Italian capital late last month, a section of Athletic fans were responsible for lighting flares and throwing a series of objects.
Several such objects landed amongst the stands holding Roma’s supporters, giving rise to an investigation on the part of UEFA.
And, as alluded to above, on Wednesday, Athletic have been made aware of their sanction on the part of European football’s governing body.
As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of the Basque side:
‘UEFA has notified Athletic Club of a financial penalty of 30,000 euros and a ban on selling tickets for the Club’s next away match. However, UEFA has suspended the ban on selling tickets for a trial period of two years.’
