In a refereeing review, the FFF have admitted that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s (24) controversial goal against Lyon was wrongfully given and should have been disallowed. The Ligue 1 champions went on to win 3-2. Les Gones protested the goal during the match with PSG following a potential foul from Vitinha on Tanner Tessmann, which wasn’t given on-field or following a VAR review.
The FFF refereeing panel believe that the goal was wrongfully awarded. Vitinha tried to retrieve the ball from behind the USMNT midfielder, but in the process made contact with Tessman’s back leg before gaining possession. This was missed by both the referee and the video assistant referee, and the goal was awarded.
Lyon aggrieved by the decision
The decision has been made even more controversial, given that it had a deciding influence on the match. Les Parisiens and OL offered up an entertaining match, which would have ended in a draw had the goal been disallowed. The Rhône club are aggrieved by the decision, as Jorge Maciel and Matthieu Louis-Jean revealed after the match.
