Former Inter Milan player Nicolas Giani has sadly passed away, just a month before his 40th birthday. The sad news comes after he was forced to retire in 2022 after reportedly being diagnosed with an incurable illness, He leaves behind his wife, Raluca, and a daughter, Bianca.
Giani, a defender who was capable of playing as a centre-back and as a full-back, came through the youth ranks at the Milan giants. Following loan spells at Cremonese and Pro Patria, he departed the club in 2008 without making an appearance for their first team.
The Italian played for the likes of Vicenza and Perugia in the next few years before he enjoyed the best spell of his career at SPAL. Giani, who captained SPAL during his successful three-year stint, was integral as they enjoyed back-to-back promotions from Serie C to Serie A, ending their 49-year absence from Italy’s top tier.
He would never appear for the club in Serie A, though, as he departed the club in 2017 having made 106 appearances and scored eight goals.
Giani went on to play for Spezia and FeralpiSalò before being forced to retire from football in 2022 following a spell with Desenzano Calvina. He also represented Italy at U18 and U19 level.
