Everton right-back to Hertha BSC

By Jonathan Dicks

25-year-old English defender Jonjoe Kenny is on the verge of joining Hertha Berlin as reported by Sport Bild.

Jonjoe Kenny is set to move on a free transfer and sign a 3-year deal with the capital club in hopes of finding a home after an endless run of loan spells. The right-back has spent time at Oxford United, Schalke, Celtic and most recently a return to his parent club of Everton where he featured just 15 times this past campaign.

While Everton reportedly offered an extension, Kenny is set on returning to Germany where he played his best football during a successful loan with Schalke featuring 31 times with 2 goals and 3 assists in the 2019/20 campaign. Kenny will compete with seasoned Peter Pekarik and 18-year-old Julian Eitschberger who is soon to be promoted to the first team.

New trainer Sandro Schwarz has been looking for help to strengthen his defense, especially with an aging right-back in 35-year-old Pekarik. Kenny is hoping a permanent deal and a fresh start can reignite his career and turn around what was once the best club in the capital.
