Everton must ‘seriously consider’ signing striker ‘like Calvert-Lewin’

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin could force Frank Lampard into the transfer market in January, claims journalist Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old picked up another injury last weekend and missed the Toffees’ 4-1 Carabao Cup defeat to Bournemouth on Tuesday as a result.

What is the latest injury news involving Calvert-Lewin?

Calvert-Lewin had to be taken off in the recent 2-0 loss against Leicester City because of a thigh problem and Lampard now expects him to miss their next Premier League game.

“With Dominic, we’re waiting on some more news from the specialists, but I’d be very surprised if he was fit for Saturday,” the 44-year-old said.

This is not Calvert-Lewin’s first injury this season, with the Englishman, who is valued at around £26m by Transfermarkt, missing the start of the campaign because of a knee problem.

It was also a similar story last term. In the end, he was only able to make 15 starts in the Premier League.

What has Jones said about Calvert-Lewin and Everton?

Following Calvert-Lewin’s latest setback, Jones thinks Everton now have to sign a new striker of his quality.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider said: “Everton are going to have to seriously consider going into the transfer market in January because they need a striker like Calvert-Lewin available to them. If they can’t rely on him, they’re going to have to strengthen.”

Who could Everton sign?

Everton are being linked with a couple of centre-forwards right now.

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs recently claimed that the Merseyside club are monitoring Armando Broja’s situation at Chelsea.

The 21-year-old is behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, which has seen him struggle to break into the Blues’ starting XI. With that in mind, then, perhaps Everton will consider making a move in January.

As well as Broja, there has also been talk about the Toffees being interested in Blackburn Rovers’ Ben Brereton Diaz.

According to Football Insider, they are keeping tabs on the player but are behind Sevilla in the race for his signature.

They could really do with Diaz, Broja or another No.9, though, with Calvert-Lewin unable to remain fit.

Described as an “exceptional footballer” by Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves, not having the England international is obviously a blow for Lampard and Everton. However, it looks like something that they are going to have to get used to. Therefore, signing a new striker soon would be helpful.
