Everton keeping a keen eye on this Serie A defender- The 4th Official

In a recent report, Tutto Udinese mentioned that Everton are keeping a keen eye on Udinese defender Rodrigo Becao. It is believed that the Toffees are set to rival Tottenham Hotspur for the Brazilian centre-half this summer.

Becao’s Impressive Run Of Form In Serie A Last Season

The 26-year-old enjoyed a decent campaign in Italian football as he managed to perform at a high level for Udinese on the defensive end of the pitch. Becao scored two goals and picked up one assist in 36 matches for the Italian club last season across various competitions.

The South American talent was a dominant presence at the back after he averaged 2.3 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 2.5 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 80.5% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).

Is Rodrigo Becao A Decent Option For Everton Boss Frank Lampard?

Becao is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger quickly to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He does not hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed and can even keep the ball moving quite well from the back.

At 26, the Brazilian centre-half is about to enter his prime and would enhance the overall quality of Everton boss Frank Lampard‘s defensive department at Goodison Park. He has got a wealth of experience in Italian football but the jury is out on whether he can handle the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football.

Becao would serve as an upgrade over Yerry Mina who was quite injury-prone at the Merseyside club in the previous campaign. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to make a smooth transition to life in English football.

Either way, the pros outweigh the cons of signing the Brazilian defender, so Lampard would be wise to get a deal over the line for him before the end of this transfer window. All in all, Becao would be a good option for Everton to pursue in this off-season.
