Everton’s hopes of landing new signings on deadline day have been held back by a lack of resources in terms of wages, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
The Toffees are in need of new signings to try and boost their squad for the remainder of the season, but manager Sean Dyche may be left to work with his current crop come the close of the transfer window at 11pm this evening.
Everton transfer news – deadline day
GiveMeSport were informed this morning that Everton had multiple medicals lined up for deadline day, including one involving Kamaldeen Sulemana.
However, developments coming out of Goodison Park have been few and far between today, with BBC Sport’s Ian Dennis even suggesting that the Toffees won’t be making any additions before tonight’s deadline.
The lack of activity comes as some surprise considering Everton were reportedly intent on backing Dyche in the transfer market after appointing him as Frank Lampard’s successor.
The early signs endorsed that narrative with Everton placing a bid for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher after selling Anthony Gordon to Newcastle in a major deal.
As things stand, there isn’t a great deal of gossip to suggest the Merseysiders will make signings today – and Jones has shed some light on why that might be the case.
What has Dean Jones said about Everton’s deadline day?
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones explained that Everton’s inability to offer big wages is holding back their deadline day shopping.
He told GMS: “Everton’s transfer activity today has been held back by the fact they can’t offer big wages at the moment. I’m hearing that has been an obstacle in these late stages as they tried to find possibilities in the market.”
