Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is not trying to force Danny Ings out of the club, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
The striker is thought to be attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs, but Jones is confident that Emery wants to keep hold of him because of his goals and pedigree in the division.
Aston Villa transfer news – Danny Ings
Jones recently told GMS that it would probably take a big offer for Ings to leave Villa this month.
According to 90min, the likes of Everton and Southampton are showing interest in the 30-year-old as they look to strengthen their squads.
In fact, the Daily Mail’s Dominic King reported at the start of January that Everton have already had an offer to take Ings on loan rejected by Villa.
King, however, says it is still a situation to keep an eye on this transfer window.
What has Dean Jones said about Danny Ings and Aston Villa?
With there still plenty of time before the market closes, it is not impossible that Ings departs Villa. Jones, however, does not think Emery is actively looking to sell him.
Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “I don’t think he’s pushing Ings out at all, and I think that’s because he’s a good goalscorer. He’s got pedigree in this league and that is hard to find.
“If you compare Ings and [Ollie] Watkins, they’re very different. Long term, Watkins might better suit the way that this team is heading.”

Should Unai Emery force Danny Ings out of Villa Park?
Unless he plans on bringing in a world-class No.9 this month, then no, as Ings is a good forward to have in your squad.
When the Englishman is fit and firing, he earns his team points. Back in the 2019/20 Premier League season, he scored an impressive 22 goals, as per Transfermarkt, helping Southampton to finish just outside the top 10.
Following his move from the Saints to Villa, his former manager Dean Smith told the Villans’ official website: “Danny is an outstanding Premier League footballer who has scored goals wherever he has played.
“He is also a top professional with a great character who will be a leader in our squad and a role model for our rapidly developing young academy players who are now in and around the first team. I am delighted to welcome Danny to our great club.”
Ultimately, Ings, who cost Villa £30m, according to The Athletic, still has something to offer to Emery’s side.
