Eintracht Frankfurt have made contact with TSG Hoffenheim midfielder Christoph Baumgartner, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Austrian international is one of Hoffenheim’s key players and is attracting a lot of interest from fellow Bundesliga clubs. Hoffenheim are currently 15th in the league and just a point outside of the relegation zone. With possible relegation on the cards, it appears that some Bundesliga clubs are circling in on some of the club’s top talents.
Though any potential deal between Hoffenheim and Frankfurt is still in its infancy, it’s hard to imagine Baumgartner staying with TSG for another season.
Should Hoffenheim be relegated this season, there is a €15m relegation clause in Baumgartner’s contract. Such a clause pretty much guarantees the Austrian’s exit should Hoffenheim fail to stay up.
However, Frankfurt also face competition from RB Leipzig for the midfielder. The Saxons are also monitoring the situation and could use Baumgartner as a replacement for the outgoing Konrad Laimer.
