Eintracht Frankfurt confirm interim coaching duo will remain in place for next Bundesliga match

Speaking after Wednesday night’s Champions League defeat against Tottenham, Eintracht Frankfurt Board Member for Sport Markus Krösche has confirmed rumors that the Bundesliga club’s search for a new head coach is stretching out for a little while longer. Krösche confirmed that the interim coaching duo of Dennis Schmitt and Alexander Meier will remain on the bench for this weekend’s Bundesliga fixture against Bayer Leverkusen.

Krösche deflects questions about Albert Riera

“We are in talks and will announce something when there is something to announce,” Krösche repeated three times in the Waldstadion mixed zone. “We want to sign the coach who is ultimately the correct choice. It’s not always about time, but getting it right. It’s taking a little longer here, or at least longer than some people expected.“

Will Eintracht opt for someone other than Riera?

A Get German Football News opinion piece published this evening lays out some reasons why Frankfurt may be prepared to second guess their choice of the Spaniard. Reports suggesting that Eintracht are currently trying to negotiate a transfer fee lower than €5m with Riera’s current club NK Celje do appear a bit suspicious as such a sum shouldn’t prove any sort of problem for a club as large as the SGE.

Despite such suspicions, it looks to be the case that Eintracht will pull the trigger on the novel experiment of appointing Riera anyway. A more logical reason for the delay might relate to direct negotiations with Riera himself, some simple bureaucratic technicalities, or the fact that Eintracht wish to spend a few more days working on Riera’s media rollout.
