Edin Terzic on Borussia Dortmund’s midfield conundrum: “We’ll keep that open.”

Speaking ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Topspiel match against Köln, Edin Terzic refused to reveal what sort of midfield he could field.

“Salih (Özcan) brings the physique and running strength to the position,” the Black and Yellow’s coach said. “Mo (Dahoud) has other skills on the ball in tight situations. But it doesn’t mean that only one of them plays. We’ll keep that open.”

Last time out the second placed side drew 2-2 with Schalke in the Revierderby with Terzic moving left-back Raphaël Guerreiro into midfield.

This is something the 40-year-old may utilise again in the future due to the Portuguese international’s attributes. He said: “It was clear to us that he has the ability and talent to find solutions in tight situations. Rapha is not a left-back who always sticks to the line, but moves into half-space. He played a really good game.”

Terzic had good news in terms of the rehabilitation of both captain Marco Reus and Julian Brandt, who has been having a great season. Discussing Brandt, Terzic added: “We think it will be very close for Saturday.”

This is after the German picked up a torn muscle while the aforementioned Reus will be back in the squad for this Saturday’s match as he returned to training after getting over his cold.

Köln haven’t won in their last four Bundesliga matches but Terzic doesn’t want this to make his complacent: “There are always such phases within a season, but you can’t rely on it staying that way,” added Terzic. “Even though they haven’t scored so often in recent games, they’re extremely dangerous. We have to play an intense game to leave the pitch as winners.”
