Tyson Fury announced his retirement on Monday, the 13th of January, just over three weeks after the second loss of his professional boxing career to Oleksandr Usyk. ‘The Gypsy King’ has announced his retirement from the sport several times over the years, so fans are always skeptical when he comes out with these types of announcements, however, there is a different feeling around this one specifically as Fury is now coming off back to back losses.
Immediately after the conclusion of the rematch between Usyk and Fury, boxing financier Turki Alalshikh made it clear that his intention coming out of the fight was to finally book the huge all-British fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua, which had been rumoured to take place for many years. With Fury’s retirement announcement, talks of the huge heavyweight clash died down, however, Joshua’s promoter and Matchroom Boxing boss, Eddie Hearn, is determined to get Fury out of retirement and make the fight happen.

Eddie Hearn to Give Tyson Fury Ultimatum for Anthony Joshua Fight
Hearn is ready to tell Fury: “Now is the time to do it”
Following the announcement of Tyson Fury’s retirement from boxing, talks over a potential heavyweight clash in the summer against Anthony Joshua ended, however, Eddie Hearn believes talks could soon resume.
In a new interview with IFL TV, Joshua’s promoter and Matchroom Boxing boss, Hearn, revealed that he is prepared to give Fury an ultimatum regarding the huge heavyweight fight with ‘AJ’, which has been in talks to take place for years but for many reasons, has never materialised.
“Maybe there’s a conversation in a week or two weeks or three weeks time where we say to Fury, ‘just to let you know, you don’t wanna fight AJ, in the summer, or August, September, because if you want to come out of retirement, now is the time to do it’.”
It is well known in the boxing world that at times ‘The Gypsy King’ is relatively difficult to work with given his up-and-down nature, so there is a chance that his retirement from boxing could just be being used as a negotiation tactic for him to get more money out of what could be a potential retirement fight for him against Joshua.
Despite there still being uncertainty around the potential of Fury vs Joshua, Hearn has revealed that ‘AJ’s’ plans in the heavyweight division are mapped out and clear.
“The only things I know are AJ wants to fight Fury and he wants to fight for the world heavyweight title, that’s it.”
