Everton manager Sean Dyche will be ‘frustrated’ by the lack of transfer activity seen at Goodison Park during the window, journalist Pete O’Rourke has informed GIVEMESPORT.
The Toffees were the only side in the league not to make an addition in the month of January, which sparked protests at their Finch Farm training base in the final hours before the deadline.
Everton Transfer News
In the latter stages of the market being open, Everton were rebuffed in their attempts to sign several players who would’ve strengthened their forward line.
Olivier Giroud, Beto, Michy Batshuayi, Ismaila Sarr and Kamaldeen Sulemana are just some of the avenues Everton tried to go down to land another striker last night, according to various sources; however, on every occasion, negotiations ground to a halt, ensuring the Toffees ended January with no fresh blood.
If anything, Everton are actually a weaker prospect now that at the start of proceedings due to losing winger Anthony Gordon, who completed a £45 million move to Newcastle United on Monday.
Looking ahead, new boss Dyche will need to contend with his current squad for the time being as he looks to alleviate the Blues from their perilous situation in the Premier League table, where they sit joint-bottom with Southampton, with only goal difference separating the pair.
What has Pete O’Rourke said about Everton’s transfer activity?
Journalist O’Rourke believes new boss Dyche will not be best pleased by the inaction in the market since his arrival.
O’Rourke told GMS: “Yeah, I’m sure he’ll be frustrated that Everton weren’t able to bring in at least a couple of signings; they had been looking at a striker and a winger for most of the January transfer window that hadn’t changed since the appointment of Sean Dyche as Frank Lampard’s replacement and as I said, losing Anthony Gordon just weakens the squad.”
Could Everton turn to the free agent market for additions?
Intriguingly, one story that did break last night, much to the surprise of many Everton fans, was that free agent Andre Ayew was said to be in ‘advanced talks’ over a move to Goodison Park, as reported by L’Equipe.
The Times has since followed these claims up, stating that Toffees boss Dyche would ‘consider’ a move for the 33-year-old forward after failing to land any targets within the window.
The former Al-Sadd player has made ten appearances in 2022/23, registering four goals and one assist across all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.
Despite Ayew being a versatile forward with a high work rate, it would be a sign of the times if Everton turned to a player who is in the twilight of his career to try and salvage their Premier League status.
Ambition has been missing at the club for a long time and any prospective deal to bring the Ghana international in would only add further evidence to that statement.
