Mats Hummels’ father and advisor, Hermann Hummels, arrived at Borussia Dortmund’s Brackel training ground on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the player’s future.
According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the meeting lasted around one hour, while the main aim is to try and convince Hummels to sign an extension at the club with the German’s contract expiring in the summer.
With the departure of Hendry Blank to RB Salzburg for a reported €4m and impending departure of Antonios Papadopoulos, Hummels leaving at the end of the season would be a huge loss to Dortmund with Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck being the only remaining options in central defence.
Mats Hummels in no rush to sign an extension
As reported by both RN and BILD, Hummels is in no rush to decide his future. Hermann Hummels and representatives of Dortmund, namely Sebastian Kehl, meet regularly to discuss the player’s future, but both sides have agreed not to discuss Hummels’ future until the end of the season.
BILD report that Kehl doesn’t feel any pressure when it comes to discussing Hummels’ contract situation, but two options for the World Cup winner is another year at Dortmund, or potentially retirement.
