Diego Simeone has sat down with ESPN Argentina to discuss a range of current football issues, as well as his life on and off the pitch.
On Atlético Madrid
Simeone has led Atlético to the top of European football since he took over in 2011, although he admits it is not easy to stay at the top. “The only way to sustain so many years of stability within the club is to win or always be in the top three. We play in a league where normally the Champions League winners are,” Simeone said in words reported by Marca.
When asked about the titles he has enjoyed most as a coach, the Argentine was very clear. “The title with Estudiantes and the La Liga title we won at Barcelona’s ground”.
On his mentality
“As a coach, I’m giving everything I have to Atlético Madrid, it’s a way of life. To give without waiting and then things will happen the way they have to happen, but always giving the best you have,” he explained.
He went on to discuss how he combines his life and his work. “One is always the same way, in work and in life. You are either dedicated or not, passionate or not passionate, calm or intense. I’m a guy who gives myself to my people, and when I meet people who are mine, I give everything I have”.
