In his most recent press-conference that was transcribed by Marca, Diego Simeone hinted at leaving Atlético Madrid at the end of his contract.
The Argentine coach arrived to Atlético Madrid in 2011 and he transformed the side from a mid-table club to one that is consistently in the title race alongside Barcelona and Real Madrid.
However, results have not been going in Simeone’s way these last couple of months and a poor showing in the Champions League in the autumn meant that they did not progress to any of the continental competitions in the new year.
In his press-conference prior to Los Colchoneros’ match against Getafe, El Cholo hinted at a possible departure from the club when his contract expires in June 2024:
“I will give it all until the last day I am here. I have one and a half year left on my contract and I’ll give everything with a lot of motivation until the last day I’m here.”
With Atlético Madrid, Diego Simeone won La Liga in 2014 and 2021, as well as the Europa League in 2012 and 2018.
