Didier Deschamps ‘not worried’ about Kylian Mbappé amid barren run

Kylian Mbappé (25) was booed by the home crowd at the Groupama Stadium as France beat Belgium 2-0 in the UEFA Nations League on Monday evening. Those boos are likely linked to his comments last week when, in the lead-up to his return to the Parc des Princes, he stated that fan reaction “was the least of [his] worries.” Those comments rattled a few feathers, both amongst fans and the media in France too.

Whilst the boos weren’t linked to the France captain’s recent performances in Bleu, it is true that Mbappé has not shown his usual levels for much of this calendar year.

‘I am convinced that in a month, he will be better’ – Deschamps on Mbappé

He has not scored in his last five appearances for Les Bleus, and the last goal that he scored, not from the penalty spot, came seven matches ago, in a Euro 2024 preparation match against Luxembourg.

Despite what is a barren run by his own high standards, Deschamps is not worried about Mbappé’s form, as he told TF1. “I am not at all worried and I have never been […] we are a bit too focused on him. The France national team will always be stronger with him […] I am convinced that in a month, he will be better. I’m not worried about Kylian in any case,” said the France manager.
