Dembele reaffirms desire to continue at Barcelona

Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele has opened up on the persistent speculation surrounding his long-term future.

Dembele has been consistently linked with a transfer away from Spotify Camp Nou even before signing his previous deal until the summer of 2024.

Rumours of an impending Barca exit have not gone away amid interest from French champions Paris Saint-Germain, especially with only a year left to run on his contract.

The France international has been a livewire on the right side of Xavi Hernandez’s front three, and his importance to the team cannot be overstated.

The electrifying winger helped Barca to their first La Liga title in four years, notching five goals and five assists in 23 league games.

Dembele has endured his fair share of injury problems but has been a reliable outlet for the Blaugranas when available.

While speculation about his future abounds, the 26-year-old has opened the door to signing a new contract with Barca, reaffirming his desire to remain at the club beyond next season.

“I feel good here,” Dembele said (via Foot Mercato). It’s the club I love. We will see what will happen, but I hope to become a very great player at FC Barcelona.”

Dembele’s remarks will come as a boost to Xavi and the Barca faithful, but the winger is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal with potential suitors circling.

The Catalans have reportedly tabled a five-year offer to Dembele after a meeting with the Frenchman’s agent Moussa Sissoko, but there has not been a response from the player’s camp.

PSG are keen to reinforce their attacking areas amid uncertainty surrounding the futures of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe.

Dembele would be a welcome addition, and they will be monitoring his contract situation while Chelsea have also been touted as a potential destination for the former Borussia Dortmund man.
