De Ligt names his toughest opponent

By Rune Gjerulff

Bayern München defender Matthijs de Ligt has named Leroy Sané as the most difficult player he has played against.

Matthijs de Ligt has played against both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but none of them was as difficult to handle as Leroy Sané.

In an interview with Kicker, the Bayern newcomer names his new teammate as the toughest opponent he has faced on the pitch.

“Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are world class, of course. But the opponent who has caused me the most problems so far was Leroy Sané in our international game against the German national team,” said the Dutchman.

“I had to defend him against him in one-versus-one situations all over the pitch. He was just everywhere. I had a lot to do. I’ve told him that too,” added the centre-back.
