Sport Bild reports that Dayot Upamecano is on the verge of extending his contract at Bayern Munich with negotiations already well advanced.
Upamecano’s contract at the Allianz Arena expires in 2026, meaning there is reason to extend his deal to avoid any chance of him leaving on a free transfer in 18 months time.
When asked about a possible extension for the Frenchman, sporting director Christoph Freund said:
“Upa knows that we definitely want to extend his contract. We have had very good discussions with him. We would like to extend his contract with him soon.”
This season, the 26-year-old has taken a big stride in his development as a defender. After a few teething issues under Vincent Kompany, Upamecano has become a stalwart of the Bayern defence and a key player in recent months.
However, although things with Upamecano have proven easy, the extensions of Joshua Kimmich and Leroy Sané still loom. Kimmich is expected to extend his contract in Munich but is currently reluctant to do so. Sané, on the other hand, is still waiting for an offer from the board as the winger wishes to stay at the club.
