When Nadiem Amiri was forced to pull out of the Germany squad with an injury, RB Leipzig’s Assan Ouedraogo received his first call-up as a replacement for the Mainz midfielder.
For David Raum, who plays with the 19-year-old at RB Leipzig, the selection is well deserved.
“He’s earned it. I’ve spoken with him over the past few weeks and told him that he performed well with the U21s, and that if he keeps it up, we’ll see him here with the senior national team,” Raum said at a press conference on Tuesday.
The left-back went on to describe the left-back as a modest and likeable character.
“He’s been too modest about himself. When I heard he had been called up, I rang him straight away – he was beaming from ear to ear,” said Raum.
“He’s well liked by everyone, a great guy with his heart in the right place – a real ‘everybody’s darling’. On the pitch, he has an incredible physical presence. We can hope for a lot from him.”
