Having secured their promotion back to the top German footballing flight, SV Darmstadt 98 are considering – at least according to one source – considering bringing back one of their old flames in order to bolster their roster for the top division. Thirty-one-year-old Fenerbahçe Serdar Dursun kicked for Darmstadt for three seasons between 2018 and 2021. He scored 59 goals in 107 appearances for die Lilien.
Dursun, a native of Hamburg, has often been linked with a return to German football since he departed for Turkey following the 2020/21 campaign. After wading through various youth programs near his hometown, the ten-times-capped Turkish international played for the Hannover reserves before initially moving to Turkey. He then played for SpVgg Greuther Fürth for two seasons prior to his move to Darmstadt.
Dursun’s current estimated market worth lies at €2.5 million in the latest transfermarkt listings. He remains under contract with his Istanbul-based club through the end of next season, but could both club and player could likely well envision a move as he currently largely works off the bench. At around €25 million, Darmstadt’s current roster is valued at nearly half that of the Bundesliga’s lowest valued roster: VfL Bochum.
