Daniel Farke defends Borussia Mönchengladbach season: “It wasn’t a crash.”

As reported by Kicker, Daniel Farke has defended Borussia Mönchengladbach’s season and believes it wasn’t as bad as many believe. 

Farke has come under fire in recent weeks with many speculating that his role is at risk at the end of the season. However, the former Norwich City manager doesn’t see it that way. 

During a press conference on Thursday, the 46-year-old talked about future plans with Gladbach and spoke as if he was going to be a club for the foreseeable future. 

“It wasn’t a crash. If after 10th place we’re back in 10th place or in place Landing 11 – that’s not a crash for me. And I don’t see a horror season either,” explained Farke. 

He continued: “We wanted to stop the negative trend after fourth, eighth and tenth place. We managed to do that under difficult conditions. Our goal was not to experience a shaky season like last year but rather to be solid in the second third of the table seven and twelve.” 

Gladbach have won just one game in their past 12 Bundesliga matches and will likely finish in the bottom of the table this season. After their draw to Bayer Leverkusen last weekend, it confirmed that the team are on their worst run since the 2010/11 season when they were relegated. However, should Gladbach win on the final day they can actually finish slightly higher than they did last time out under Adi Hütter.

There is clearly room for improvement at the club. Whether Farke is the man to do it remains to be seen.
