Daniel Bauer is now the forty-first head coach in the history of VfL Wolfsburg, signing a contract with the Niedersachsen club until 30 June 2027.
The club officially announced that the 43-year-old signed the contract offer at the Volkswagen Arena this afternoon – just hours ahead of Wolfsburg’s last home match of the calendar year against SC Freiburg.
“I look forward to continuing to work on our development together with my coaching team and all of the players – and to achieving everything we can for the VfL,” Bauer said to the after signing the contract.
Bauer was also quoted as saying: “The cohesion and the bond are extremely strong – we have ignited a fire in the club and in the city. We are on the right track, and I would like to continue this journey with the lads.”
In six matches leading VfL Wolfsburg as interim during the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons – following the dismissals of Ralph Hasenhüttl and Paul Simonis – Bauer is 3-2-1. In this current tenure, he is 2-1-1, with victories against 1. FC Union Berlin and Borussia Mönchengladbach, a draw against Eintracht Frankfurt, and a defeat to Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
Prior to taking this position, Bauer was the head coach of the under-19 team from January 2022 onward – and has developed talents in the academy that are currently in consideration for the main team, such as Jan Bürger, Pharrell Hensel, Bruno Katz, and Till Neininger.
