Crystal Palace ‘have chance’ of summer deal for 23 y/o talent at Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace ‘might have a chance’ to sign Middlesbrough defender Isaiah Jones next summer but not before, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Selhurst Park in recent weeks after putting in some impressive performances for his current employers over the last 18 months.

What is the latest news involving Jones?

A recent report from The Sun has claimed that Palace are eager to bring Jones back to south London after he made his name with Tooting & Mitcham before earning his move to Boro.

The right-back’s contract is not due to expire until the summer of 2025, though, meaning Middlesbrough are in a strong position around the negotiating table.

Nevertheless, Jones is said to be seen by Palace as a cheaper alternative to their other target Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who left the club for Manchester United in a £50 million deal back in 2019.

Wan-Bissaka has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford over the last year or so and is deemed surplus to requirement by Erik ten Hag.

The former England Under-21 international takes home £90,000-per-week at present, and that figure could prove to be a stumbling block in any negotiations.

What has Jones said about Jones?

Jones believes that the arrival of Michael Carrick in the Riverside Stadium hot seat means his namesake won’t be sold in January, although he does reckon Palace may have a chance following the conclusion of 2022/23.

He told GiveMeSport: “From what I’m told, especially on the back of Michael Carrick coming into Boro, they will not be selling him this season.

“At the end of the season, that might change, and Palace might have a chance, but for the time being, I don’t think he’s going anywhere.”

How good is Isaiah Jones?

Jones burst onto the scene last term, registering one goal and nine assists in 47 appearances across all competitions, catching the eye as Middlesbrough reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

And the attack-minded ace has carried that form into the current campaign, racking up five goal contributions in 15 Championship outings.

As per WhoScored, Jones has also averaged 1.9 tackles, 1.5 key passes, 1.7 dribbles, and 0.7 crosses per league game, placing him in the top three for each metric when compared to his teammates.

It seems as though Jones is ready to make the step up to the Premier League, and he could be a solid addition to Patrick Vieira’s exciting setup at Palace.
