Over the last couple of days Cristiano Ronaldo has been heavily criticised for the way he is handling his situation at Manchester United and many question whether he can lead Portugal to success at the World Cup.
However, Iker Casillas has spoken out on social media to defend the achievements of the 37-year-old. In an interview that appeared on AS, Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his feeling of gratitude for the comments made by his former teammate:
“I have a great relationship with Iker. We played together and won trophies. We know how it works in the press, what is said is often to have relevance. I agree with him and I hope to prove it once again. I am motivated day after day and I want to go out on the street and see the joy of the children when they see me.”
“If at 37 years and 8 months old I still have to prove things, I would be worried. I respect people’s opinions. I want to have a great World Cup for my family, for my fans. I want to win, but if I don’t, I’ll be happy with what I’ve done,” he added.
Portugal kick off their World Cup campaign against Ghana on Thursday.
